Meet the Director of DRS

Sandy Matheson

In April 2005, Governor Gregoire appointed Sandy Matheson as the director of the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). She also serves on the Select Committee on Pension Policy, the Pension Funding Council, and the Washington State Investment Board. Recently elected Vice Chair of the WSIB in September 2007, Sandy also serves on the Audit, Private Markets, and Administrative Committees.

With over 25 years of career and community accomplishments, Sandy has worked in management in several industries and taught as an adjunct instructor for Washington State University. She has served as President and CEO of Hanford Environmental Health Foundation and as board chair for the Tri-City Industrial Development Council and Kennewick General Hospital as well as many other not-for-profit and for-profit boards of directors.

Ms. Matheson graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She completed post-graduate accounting studies at Gonzaga University and passed the CPA exam in 1978. She also received a Masters in Business Administration from Washington State University in 1998.
