Begin Dates

All new employees must have a begin date reported to DRS on the first transmittal report. Report an August begin date for employees who work in August. Reporting a September begin date will cause the August earnings to reject. Reporting the appropriate begin and end dates is required for anyone that was a substitute last year if they are now eligible for active membership. Additional information on substitutes is below.

Use Member Reporting Verification (MRV) to verify system plan history for new employees. MRV is a DRS Web-Based Service.

Correct System and Plan

PERS Plan 2 members must be reported in SERS Plan 2.

SERS and TRS Plan 2 members who want to be in Plan 3 must give you a completed Member Information Form (MIF) in January - for those member's you receive a MIF from, you can then report them in Plan 3 with their January transfer date. DRS will process January transfer dates on the January and February transmittal reports.

Substitutes

Report the necessary end and begin dates for any employee who worked as a substitute in the prior school year but is eligible for membership in the current school year. We need an end date reported with the substitute type code and the begin date reported with the active member type code.

Refer to the employer publication Retirement Reporting Reminders - Substitutes for additional information on correctly reporting employees who are substitutes or transitioning between substitute and active membership status.
