In early November, the Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) will provide you with annual statements for active members of the Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS), Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS), and School Employees’ Retirement System (SERS). The annual statements incorporate the members’ individual account information with details about the system and plan, and how a benefit is calculated at retirement.
To ensure security of the member’s personal data, the last four digits of the member’s social security number will no longer be printed on the annual statements. The employee’s name and address are provided on the statement so when folded will show through a window envelope. You can mail the statement directly to the member’s home, if you choose. We appreciate your help in distributing these confidential statements to your employees.
The following account information appears on the 2008 annual statement:
Your annual statements will automatically be sent by reporting group in alphabetical order by last name unless you provide further information to DRS. If you would like to receive your statements in an order other than alphabetical by last name, you must provide sequence control numbers to DRS. The control number determines sequencing and allows you to sort the statements in an order you choose. We will print your reporting group’s annual statements in ascending sequence by this control number. Transactions with duplicate control numbers or no control numbers will be sorted alphabetically by last names.
Note: If you furnished us with sequencing control numbers last year, the same numbers will be used again this year unless updated per the instructions below. If you have provided control numbers in the past and would now like to receive the statements in alphabetical order by last name please contact ESS for further instructions.
You can add or update the control number through the transmittal reporting process by entering the sequencing information in the Control Number Field on the Employment Information Record. Please refer to Chapter 8 in the “DRS Employer Handbook” for instructions and examples of how you can sort your statements.
If you report via WSIPC, contact your Fiscal Coordinator for instructions.
All updates of sequencing information processed by October 17, 2008, will be used.
If you have not received the statements by November 30, 2008, you should also contact ESS. A member who has not received a statement should contact the DRS Retirement Services Division at (360) 664-7000 or 1-800-547-6657.
If you have any questions regarding this DRS Notice, please contact Employer Support Services at (360) 664-7200, option 2, or 1-800-547-6657, option 6, option 2; or email us.
