Eligibility Determination Worksheet
Verifying Employees Who are Eligible to Participate in the Washington State Retirement System
- Determine if any employees/contractors are retirees of a Washington state retirement system.
If you find that you have retirees on your list, review their personnel files to ensure that you have a written statement from them that they are retired from a retirement system. Employers are required under RCW 41.50.139 to document if new employees have ever been retired from a Washington state retirement system. You must also ask for the retirement status of all contractors you compensate for performing services, and the retirement status for those in their employ. (EHB 2391) Employees are required to report all of their past service.
Review the Retirement Status Form. Most retirees must wait at least 30 days from their retirement date (accrual date) not separation date, before returning to work or their retirement benefit will be stopped.
