What if I work after retirement?

Your benefits may be affected if you work for a DRS-covered employer after retirement. Under state law, the employer is required to report your hours to DRS. When you apply for retirement you will receive the publication, Thinking About Working After Retirement? which explains how your benefit may be affected.

Am I eligible for health insurance coverage after I leave employment?

If your employer offers continuing health care coverage through the Public Employees Benefits Board (PEBB), you may be qualified for health care coverage when you retire. If qualified, you must:

To find out if you are qualified for PEBB benefits, contact your employer. You can also contact the Health Care Authority at 1-800-200-1004.

Can I transfer to PERS Plan 3?

All PERS Plan 2 members have the opportunity to become PERS Plan 3 members. If you became a Plan 2 member before PERS Plan 3 began, you have the option to transfer to Plan 3 each January. You will not, however, receive the transfer payment that was available to PERS Plan 2 members who transferred to PERS Plan 3 when the plan began (the “implementation window”). Furthermore, if you transfer to PERS Plan 3, you cannot return to PERS Plan 2 membership.

For new PERS members, if you do not select a plan within 90 days, your default choice becomes Plan 3.

Information for new members and existing PERS Plan 2 members can be found in the Plan Choice Booklet, available from your employer and on this Web site.

Why does DRS need my Social Security number?
