Plan Choice - January Transfer Option for PERS, SERS and TRS Members

You will need to know...

• Eligible PERS/SERS/TRS Plan 2 members have the option to transfer to Plan 3 during the open enrollment period which occurs January 1 through January 31st each year if enrolled in Plan 2 prior to:
  • PERS: March 1, 2002 for higher education or state agency
  • PERS: September 1, 2002 for local government
  • SERS July 1, 2007
  • SERS: July 1, 2007-July 31, 2009or SERS with prior PERS Plan 2 Service
  • TRS: July 1, 2007
• Employers must provide:
  • The Plan Choice Booklet which includes the Member Information Form, the Beneficiary Designation. These members may find the Plan 3 Investment Guide helpful.
• Direct members to the ICMA website to assist them with their plan choice.
• After the member makes a plan choice, provide the appropriate Member Handbook.

• Employers must keep a supply of forms and publications on-hand to provide to members.
