DRS will be requesting 2010 Social Security (FICA) wage information from your agency.
Effective July 1, 2009, the Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) became the State Social Security Administrator of the Old Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) Program, also known as Social Security and Medicare.
DRS is responsible for administering the OASI Program for all state and local (public) government employers throughout the State of Washington. DRS also serves as a facilitator and communication bridge between government employers and the Social Security Administration (SSA) and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) - the two principal federal agencies responsible for coverage, benefits and tax withholding associated with Social Security and Medicare.
DRS is mandated by RCW 41.48.065 to bill participating employers for the cost of administering the OASI Program. Participating employers are public employers that are covered for Social Security under Washington's Section 218 Agreement. Later this year, we will be requesting 2010 Social Security (FICA) wage information from you via email. The information will be used to calculate the OASI Invoice amount. The minimum invoice amount will be $25. Invoices will be generated in April 2011 and will be due in May 2011.
More information regarding Public Employers and Social Security is available on our website at http://www.drs.wa.gov/publications/employer/OASIProgram.htm.
