DRS Notice 26-001, DRS Requests for Information
Applies to: All Employers
Subject: DRS Notice 26-001, DRS Requests for Information
At Department of Retirement Systems (DRS), our mission is to provide information and services to ensure our members receive the retirement benefits they earn while in public service. As a participating employer, you are a valued partner in fulfilling that mission.
Part of that participation includes cooperating with DRS requests to provide information for compliance reviews, census data testing and to administer the Old Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) program. Selected employers within each area will begin receiving requests in January or February. Requests will be sent to you separately for each area your organization has been selected to participate in. It is important that you respond to those requests within the established timelines.
- Compliance Reviews – Screening and reviews conducted by DRS compliance analysts
- Emails will be sent initially by the Compliance Team beginning in February and continue throughout the year. Requested information may include personnel and payroll information, contracts, W-3s and 1099s.
- Census Data Testing – Annual census data testing is performed by DRS’ external auditors, UHY LLP
- DRS’ Financial Reporting team will contact selected employers by phone and e-mail in late fall/winter of any year they are selected.
- OASI RFEI – Old Age & Survivors’ Insurance Request for Employer Information
- An email sent in February asking certain employers to go into ERA and submit the “amount of total Social Security wages for all employees for the prior tax year.” The information is found in Box 3 of the W-3.
