DRS Notice 26-006, TRS and SERS Return to Work Rules and Type Code Changes for Tribal and Charter Schools
Applies to: Tribal and Charter Schools
Subject: DRS Notice 26-006, TRS and SERS Return to Work Rules and Type Code Changes for Tribal and Charter Schools
If you are not a tribal or charter school, please disregard this notice.
Effective June 24, 2026, tribal and charter schools can now use type codes 93 and 94 that are required for reporting certain retirees who have returned to work, ending Jan. 1, 2030.
Type Codes:
- Type Code 93 is used for reporting a SERS or TRS retiree hired into an eligible non-administrative position at a school district, tribal or charter school.
- Type Code 94 is used for reporting a TRS retiree hired into an eligible administrative position at a second-class school district, tribal or charter school. Must have retired prior to 1/1/22.
Please review each employee to determine if any of them should be in type code 93 or 94. Reporting an incorrect type code may cause their hourly limit to be restricted to 867 hours when it should be 1,040 hours.
If the retiree has retired from more than one DRS-covered retirement system or has a disability retirement, they should contact DRS to discuss eligibility before accepting employment.
