Elected/Governor Appointed Officials are exempt from mandatory membership in the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS). However, they can apply and become a member if they choose to do so. You should not report Elected/Governor Appointed Officials to DRS prior to receiving direction to do so from DRS staff. For state agencies this may impact your Director if their position was appointed directly by the Governor. Please click on the following link for more information regarding elected officials.
As you know, eligible Plan 2 members who would like to transfer to Plan 3 must complete the Member Information Form (MIF). Please remind these individuals they must provide you with the MIF by January 31, 2010 to become a Plan 3 member. You can verify if a member is eligible to transfer to Plan 3 by accessing Member Reporting Verification (MRV). For additional information regarding this process see transferring to Plan 3.
