The Department of Retirement Systems and the Health Care Authority have been working together in support of raising awareness on health care choices. We want to ensure that your employees are notified of their option to enroll or defer PEBB retiree health insurance coverage before their enrollment window expires. We have also met with the Payroll Personnel Retirement WASBO Committee and they are in support of this goal too.

Specifically, we need the following people to be aware of their health coverage options - those employees who separate from employment and are eligible to receive a defined benefit retirement payment. We have made several changes due to this collaboration – details below summarize the changes we want you to be aware of:

  • HCA will mail a letter directly to retirement system members that may qualify for the Public Employees Benefits Board (PEBB) retiree health coverage.
  • Who will this letter be mailed to? DRS will generate an address file that includes members that have applied for retirement or separated from employment and are eligible to retire. The first file was created on May 20, 2011 and this will occur on the 7th and 20th of each subsequent month.
  • An HCA checklist is intended to help employees who leave employment understand their health insurance options (including enrolling and deferring enrollment into PEBB retiree health insurance coverage).
  • HCA has also produced a DVD that has been mailed to employers. Individuals can learn more about PEBB retiree benefits and view the online video version. This website provides information for your employees who are preparing to leave employment.
  • An updated Career Transitions publication now includes two HCA questions

We are sending you this information in case you get questions and to ask for your support. We need you to direct your employees to the links above and to the PEBB website to help ensure they are aware of their health care options.

Your employees may not be able to participate in PEBB heath coverage during their employment with your organization. However they may be eligible as soon as they separate from employment. Please consider posting the links above to your intranet and help raise the awareness level on this important subject.
