In light of the recent media attention highlighting the mischaracterization of Independent Contractors, DRS will be reviewing any contracts you have in place with any contractor, independent contractor, or personal service contractor where the primary services are being provided by a DRS retiree. We are requesting to review all contracts where service was provided by a DRS retiree between June 2010 and the present.
Attached is a form you will need your senior Human Resource Manager or authorized senior manager to sign and return to DRS. Please return the form along with copies of any contracts to DRS by July 31, 2013. If you do not have any contracts that meet the criteria above, please sign and date the form confirming that statement. Please send all documents electronically to Employer Support Services. If you do not know whether the individual is a retiree from a DRS plan, verify the individual’s status using Member Reporting Verification (MRV). As a reminder, per DRS Email 09-001, employers are required to complete and retain in their files, the Contractor Status form for any contractor, independent contractor, or personal service contractor that you directly compensate.
