The following publications are intended for substitutes and have been updated in support of plan choice for new members. The “fact sheet” should be provided to any employee you are reporting as a substitute when they are hired. The fact sheet is two pages of useful information regarding how to establish membership and purchasing service credit.
The “application” includes fact sheet information plus additional information including the application form. You should provide the “application” at the end of the school year to those employees who express an interest in applying for service credit earned as a substitute. Remember to use Member Reporting Verification to print their earnings and hours – the substitute will need this information to create their estimated billing amount.

In the future, please provide the “fact sheet” to all substitutes at the beginning of the school year and or when they are hired.
Employees working as substitutes who have never established membership are eligible to choose their Plan (2 or 3). Those individuals who apply to purchase service credit earned as a substitute will select their plan as part of the application process.
Correctly report employees who work as substitutes and or transition to active member status and vice versa.
