Subject: DRS Notice 23-008, Retiree Return-to-Work (RRTW) Rule Changes per SSB 5538

Retirees of the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) and Public Safety Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS) can return to work in a non-administrative, licensed nursing position at a state agency or institution of higher education for up to 1,040 hours per year. This is a result of SSB 5538, which took effect on April 14, 2023.

DRS is working on a programming solution that will allow employers to identify and report eligible retirees for the 1,040 hour exception as part of the normal reporting process.

In the meantime, we need your assistance. Please respond to this one question survey by Aug. 4. Based on your response, we may follow-up with you. To avoid duplicate responses, we are sending this notice and survey to only the primary main contact for each employer.
