DRS Notice 24-016, Completing Requests for Employer Information (RFEI)
Date: July 16, 2024
To: All Employers
Subject: DRS Notice 24-016, Completing Requests for Employer Information (RFEI)
It is very important that Requests for Employer Information are responded to in a timely manner.
RFEIs are sent to employers when additional information is needed to verify the data reported in the member’s account. Many RFEIs are generated when a member is preparing to retire. When an official estimate is requested, the member’s account is reviewed and an RFEI is generated if there are questions.
A delayed response can result in benefit calculations based on incorrect service credit, Average Final Compensation (AFC) or Final Average Salary (FAS), and delayed receipt of pension benefits. Late responses can also lead to administrative fees being assessed against employers.
There are several different reasons why an RFEI may be requested.
- Spike in earnings/hours
- Furlough
- Status code (M codes)
- Missing earnings/hours
